It is not an easy game and it requires practice to improve. The learning curve will surely keep many away from the game, as well. With friends, it can be a great experience. The game has a lot of great moments, truly, but it is difficult for me to recommend it to solo players because of the co-op nature of the game. The game encourages you try different characters, with different playstyles until you find the one you like the most (or perhaps a few, that you like the most). It is important to note that you are not locked to a single character after choosing it for the first time! The game will have you repeating the same missions over and over again with different characters, different builds and different weapons. This is the main progression in the game. My personal tip for new players is block, block, block! (using the Left Trigger).Įach character has 30 levels to progress and a 600 hero power level (currently, as of writing this review) to gain. You may fail the first couple of missions you attempt, but you'll earn XP for it and level up, gaining better loot and better understanding of the game's mechanics. The game's first difficulty, "Recruit", is not easy to new and inexperienced players, and it may turn off new players from the game. The game has a serious learning curve, which might feel a little too punishing to new players. The game will have you grinding for the best loot, but you'll often find yourself replacing your gear in order to improve your character's power level. There is no shortcut to it by paying real cash, for better or worse (in my opinion, it's better this way). The loot in the game is earned through loot boxes, meaning that you will rely on RNG to progress. It's enough to have a single uncooperative teammate to ruin a run, or make it needlessly difficult, at the very least. The game has bots that are pretty competent, but the game's best moments are with great and cooperative teammates. It is very easy to get overwhelmed by a horde or by sneaky assassins or hook rats that can grab you and, without a teammate to the rescue, you are most likely dead.īecause of this, I struggle to recommend the game to solo players. The game has a heavy emphasis on team play, meaning that lone wolves will have a bad time. Along the level, there will be hidden collectibles, such as Tomes and Grimoires that will boost your score and award better loot at the end of the mission, should you succeed. The levels are well detailed and have plenty of replay-ability, and quite a learning curve, too.
Some scripted events will remain unchanged, however. The game has 13 levels at launch (excluding DLC) and the game consists of replaying the same levels over and over again, although the encounters in the level may vary.
Jokes aside, the game's lore will be a little complicated to understand without prior knowledge, so to most players who are new to the franchise it will be mostly "slay rats, because why not?", and that isn't necessarily a bad thing.Įach hero has three different careers with unique passive and active abilities, as well as perks to buff the characters. The game revolves around five heroes trying to slay as many rats as possible (and save the world, on the way, if possible). Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a 4-player co-op, first person hack & slash with shooter elements embedded into it, making it an interesting offering.
